Keeneland Sales Graduate Hardest Core Overcomes the Odds to Win Arlington Million

You are here

LEXINGTON, KY (Aug. 18, 2014) – Keeneland sales alum Hardest Core rallied in late stretch to upset a strong field of turf horses in Saturday’s Arlington Million (G1) at Arlington Park. Gregory Bentley purchased the son of Hard Spun for $210,000 at Keeneland’s 2013 November Breeding Stock Sale as a 30th birthday gift for his son, Andrew, who was born with Down syndrome. Hardest Core nearly lost his life when gelded after the November Sale, but returned to the races to be undefeated in three starts this season. The Arlington Million was his first attempt in graded stakes company.

Keeneland sales graduates swept the top three spots in the Alabama (G1) on Saturday at Saratoga, led by Stopchargingmaria. The Alabama win marked the filly’s second consecutive Grade 1 victory following last month’s win in the Coaching Club American Oaks (G1).
