LEXINGTON, KY (July 10, 2013) – Keeneland sales alumni were impressive in their performances on President’s Cup Day, held Monday, July 1, at Central Moscow Hippodrome, led by Baletmeister and Mori’s Arch, who finished 1-2 in Russia’s richest race, the President of the Russian Federation Stakes.
Known as the President’s Cup, the stakes is a Russian Group 1 event for older horses going 2400 meters. It carries a purse of 10 million (RUB), or $302,580.
Keeneland sales graduates also posted wins in two other of the Thoroughbred stakes held on the President’s Cup race card – the Jockey Club Stakes and the Central Moscow Hippodrome Stakes.
“It was gratifying for me and Will Mayer, from our sales staff, to be in attendance on a day in which Keeneland was so well represented,” said Vice President of Racing W.B. Rogers Beasley. “We are very proud of our sales graduates, and happy for the success of their connections.”
Winner Baletmeister and second-place finisher Mori’s Arch are both graduates of Keeneland’s September Yearling Sale. Baletmeister, a six-year-old horse by Pulpit out of Cullberg Ballet (IRE), was purchased for $55,000 by Dexco Ltd. at the 2008 September Sale. He was consigned by Lane’s End, agent. Mori’s Arch, a four-year-old colt by Arch out of Sarie Marais, was consigned by Mill Ridge Sales, agent, to the 2010 September Sale, where he was purchased for $75,000 by German International BA.
All nine starters in the Jockey Club Stakes, for two-year-olds going 1200 meters, were Keeneland sales graduates. Jockey Club Stakes winner Sandy Sly Cat sold as both a weanling and a yearling at Keeneland. John Black purchased the Bluegrass Cat colt for $40,000 from Taylor Made Sales Agency at the 2012 September Sale. Second-place Devcalion, by Curlin, and third-place Yulian, by Dixie Union, also are 2012 September Sale alumni.
Keeneland-sold S Arancha and Veseliy finished 1-2 in the Central Moscow Hippodrome Stakes, for three-year-olds and up going 2000 meters. S Arancha, a four-year-old son of Arch, sold for $80,000 to SWIG Group, Inc., at the 2010 September Sale. He was consigned by Three Chimneys Sales, agent for Forging Oaks LLC.
