September Sale Alumni Sporting Chance, Lady Ivanka Find Grade 1 Success in Hopeful, Spinaway

September 5, 2017

LEXINGTON, KY (Sept. 5, 2017) – Keeneland September Yearling Sale alumni Sporting Chance and Lady Ivanka achieved Grade 1 wins in their stakes debuts, the Hopeful (G1) and Spinaway (G1), respectively, during closing weekend at Saratoga.

Sporting Chance gave Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas his eighth victory in the Hopeful and his third with owners William Mack and Robert Baker. The trio also teamed to win the Hopeful with September Sale graduates Dublin in 2009 and Strong Mandate in 2013.

Lady Ivanka earned a berth in the 14 Hands Winery Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) with her impressive score in the Spinaway.

September Sale graduate Sharp Samurai notched his third consecutive victory on Sunday, taking the Del Mar Derby (G2) after previously winning the Rainbow at Santa Anita in June and the La Jolla (G3) at Del Mar last month.

September Sale graduates recently won group stakes abroad. Cascanueces took the Clasico Polla de Potrancas (G1) in Peru on Aug. 27, while Arabian Hope captured the International Istanbul Trophy (G3) in Turkey on Saturday.
