Success Begins at Keeneland

Graduates of Keeneland's 2014 September Yearling Sale swept the 2016 Triple Crown, pushing the total number of sales alumni to win the classics to 61: 20 Kentucky Derby winners, 22 Preakness winners and 19 Belmont winners.

Keeneland conducts three premier Thoroughbred auctions annually. In keeping with its founders’ mission to perpetuate and improve the sport, revenue from Keeneland sales is reinvested in purse money for the track’s world-class racing program and initiatives that benefit the entire horse industry.

Kentucky Derby (G1)

Undefeated champion 2-year-old Nyquist scored his eighth consecutive victory in the Kentucky Derby (G1). His impressive string of Grade 1 wins also included the Del Mar Futurity and FrontRunner in Southern California, the Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Keeneland and the Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park. Nyquist, by Uncle Mo, also sold as a weanling at Keeneland's November Breeding Stock Sale.

Preakness (G1)

Exaggerator captured the Preakness (G1) to highlight an accomplished 3-year-old season that followed a win in the Santa Anita Derby (G1) and a runner-up finish in the Kentucky Derby (G1) and preceded a 1 1/2-length victory in the Haskell Invitational (G1). At two, the colt by Curlin won the Saratoga Special (G2) in New York and the Delta Downs Jackport (G3) in Louisiana.

Belmont (G1)

Creator showed gutsy determination against 12 rivals in the Belmont (G1). Blocked behind a wall of horses, the Tapit colt weaved his way through traffic and used the length of the stretch to reel in Grade 2 winner Destin and win the race by a nose. Creator's season also featured a late-running win in the Arkansas Derby (G1).
