Today’s Gulfstream horses Hot List races to watch – Saturday, March 9, 2013

By Bob Ehalt and Shawn Rychling

Hot List Key:

A : A preferred horse to watch                  B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
* - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

1st race – (4) Snit Fit  (a D last time) took plenty of late action in being knocked down from 6-1 to go off as the 7-2 favorite in her turf debut. Forged to the front in mid-stretch only to weaken late. Atones with a better timed ride here. (6) English Crossing disappointed at 5-2 but can bounce back here with blinkers on. (1) Bahia de Oro has been slipping but can wake up from the rail. (10) Conquesta lost by a neck against better but has lost at this level too and has to overcome post 10.  Betting strategy:  4 to win, place. Exacta box:  1-4-6-10.

3rd race – (1) Acclaim (C) attracted a wave of late money in dropping from 5-1 to 2-1 and broke his maiden at 7 furlongs. Gets a little more distance here and should handle these from the rail. (4) Declan’s Warrior (A) was a sharp second despite a slow start and shapes up as the one to fear most.  (6) County Lineman has been racing well on synthetics; makes his dirt debut today. (5) Sayler’s Creek was eased last time at 5-1 but has worked well since then. Betting strategy: 1 to win, place.  Exacta box: 1-4; Exactas: 1-4 over 5-6 and 5-6 over 1-4.

5th race – (7) Layton Register (C) dipped from 8-1 to 6-1 and lost a great stretch duel by a nose in his turf debut. Hasn’t run in four months but can handle these if there’s no rust and 12-1 odds are hard to ignore. (4) Oistin’s Town woke up in his turf debut for Pletcher and looms as the one to catch. (6) War Dancer was second in his lone turf start and adds Lasix today. (11) Uncle Gare (C) plummeted from 11-1 to 6-1 and was second in a claimer. Faces better here but can figure in the exotics. Betting strategy: 7 to win, place. Exacta and triple box: 4-6-7-11. Triples: 4-6 with 7 with 4-5-6-10-11-12 and 4-6 with 4-5-6-10-11-12 with 7.

7th race – (9) Bold Dance (B) showed more speed than usual and was a solid second. Like most runners  from Mott’s barn these days, he looks like the one to beat here. (10) Pyrite Mountain shows two good showings on Polytrack and should take to turf just fine; also adds Lasix. (4) Fredericksburg was distanced in the Holy Bull; belongs in this turf allowance. (2) Archer Hill makes his 3-year-old debut after some promising starts at two. (11) G.T. Tabu (C), a Main Track Only entrant, figures to be in the mix if the race is contested on dirt.  Betting strategy: 9 to win, place. Exacta box: 2-4-9-10.

9th race – (5) Finale (A) suffered a tough beat last time as he raced wide after a slow start and was caught in the final yards. Faces a tough field here but can eke out a win. (6) Hobbs (B) is in excellent form and cannot be ignored. (7) Hyper (A) was a decent third after a layoff and should be sharper here. (2) Bad Debt usually brings home a share of the purse.  Betting strategy: 5 to win, place. Exacta box: 2-5-6-7.
