Keeneland not only offers exceptional Thoroughbred racing with meets in April and October but is the world’s largest Thoroughbred auction house with internationally important sales in January, September and November. Next on the calendar is the 74th annual Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, which has cataloged more than 4,700 graded stakes-winning fillies and mares, graded stakes producers, well-bred weanlings and horses of racing age.
Highlights of the sale from Nov. 7-18 include champion Stellar Wind, who is pre-entered in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) on Nov. 3; Lady Eli, pre-entered in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1) on Nov. 4; and additional Grade 1 winners Cathryn Sophia, Her Emmynency, Al’s Gal, Paola Queen and Street Fancy. Twirl (IRE), a stakes-winning daughter of Galileo (IRE) and a full sister to Irish and French highweight Misty For Me (IRE) – dam of multiple Group 1 winners Roly Poly and U S Navy Flag – offered in foal to Curlin.
The catalog includes the first mares in foal to 2016 Horse of the Year California Chrome and other stallions such as Air Force Blue, Flintshire (IRE), Frosted, Mshawish, Not This Time, Nyquist and Runhappy.
Weanlings – horses born in 2017 – include the first foals by Triple Crown winner American Pharoah, champion Honor Code, Belmont (G1) winner Tonalist and Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) winner Liam’s Map. Others represent the first weanlings by successful sire Empire Maker since his return to the U.S.
