Horsemen Details for the Spring Meet

Keeneland’s Spring Meet, held April 2-23, will allow access to a limited number of participating owners to attend on the day their horse is running. In this unique environment, Keeneland invites you to take in the excitement and carry on your race-day traditions from home.

Horseman Guidelines

  • Any stable employees that are planning to reside on Keeneland’s grounds will be required to take a COVID-19 test at Keeneland or provide proof of a negative test from within 72 hours in order to gain access to their allocated living quarters. Testing on-site at Keeneland will be available on Thursday, March 11th from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the Keeneland Entertainment Center.
  • Keeneland’s Horsemen’s Hospitality team will contact owners to arrange for tickets as the race fields are set.
  • Owners with a horse entered in a race on the undercard will receive four tickets per horse for the day their horse is running.
  • Owners with a horse entered in a stakes race will receive six tickets per horse for the day their horse is running.
  • Keeneland will offer limited food and beverage service.
  • All individuals must wear a face mask and maintain proper social distancing while on the grounds.
  • Temperature checks, will continue at the admission gates for everyone entering the Keeneland grandstand.
  • A maximum of 4 owners for undercard and 6 owners for stakes will be permitted to enter the Saddling Paddock & Winner’s Circle with designated lapel stickers being required for entry. These stickers will be distributed the day of the race.

    Health and Safety Guidelines

    With the safety and well-being of our patrons, horsemen and employees at the forefront of our planning, we are excited to welcome you back to Keeneland. Based on guidance from health authorities and government agencies, we are implementing new safety measures.

    Daily Medical Screenings at Keeneland Gates: Only those with a temperature less than 100.4 degrees and showing no symptoms of illness will be granted access to the Keeneland grounds.

    Face Coverings Required for Everyone: Masks are required at all times for patrons and employees. Masks may be removed when patrons are seated at their table or grandstand reserved seat.

    Social Distancing and Capacity Measures: To allow for social distancing, a limited number of individuals are permitted inside the Keeneland grandstand. Groups attending the Spring Meet together are expected to remain at least 6 feet away from other groups.

    Increased Sanitation Protocols: Keeneland has increased sanitation measures throughout the facility. Patrons and employees are expected to wash or sanitize their hands often. Multiple hand sanitizing stations have been added throughout the facility for your convenience.

    Keeneland Backside & Morning Works

    Only those people required for the direct daily care of the horses will be permitted on Keeneland’s backside. The Keeneland grounds will remain open daily until 11 a.m. for owners and visitors to view morning workouts from the Track Apron or Grandstand. All horsemen, patrons, and staff will be required to wear face coverings at all times, and properly maintain social distancing.

    Race Day Operations

    Keeneland’s limited grounds access will end at 11 a.m. daily, following morning workouts. At this point, only horsemen responsible for the daily care of the horses on the backside are permitted. At 12 p.m. Keeneland's South Gate entrance will open to credentialed horsemen and owners.

    Gate Check: On race days, beginning at 11 a.m., all visitors entering the Keeneland grounds will be asked to present a race day ticket, parking hang tag or explain business purpose for being on the grounds.

    Face Coverings: Face coverings are required for everyone. Masks may be removed only while seated at designated seat or table.

    Admission Gates: Gates open at 12:00 p.m. to credentialed owners. All attendees are asked to enter through the South Gate entrance, near the Welcome Center.

    Paddock: Access to this area is limited to the trainer, trainer’s assistant and groom. Additionally 4 owners for undercard and 6 owners for stakes per horse will be allowed access with a designated lapel sticker being required for entry.

    Food & Beverage: A variety of food and beverage options will be available for purchase throughout the grandstand.

    Mutuels: Live tellers and self-service machines will be available throughout the facility. Guests are encouraged to wager from their mobile device through Keeneland Select for a contactless option. Drive-thru betting will be open at Keeneland on race days.

    Racing Office: This area will be limited to essential staff only and will have security monitoring.
