Channing’s father, Allan, was a jockey who won 667 races between 1976 and 1999. Channing started riding three days after his 16th birthday at the Columbus Agricultural Park in Nebraska and rode at Prairie Meadows in Iowa during summers between high school. He moved to New York after graduating early from high school and finished second in balloting for the 2005 Eclipse Award as outstanding apprentice. He rode in Saudi Arabia for about four months in 2012. His stepsister, Stephanie Korger, also has been a jockey.
