Barn Notes: Brown, Castellano Hold Narrow Leads In Standings As Keeneland Spring Meet Comes To A Close

With three days remaining in Keeneland’s 16-day Spring Meet, the races for leading trainer and jockey are tight.

Chad Brown is the leading trainer with nine wins. His final starter of the season, Queen Medb (IRE), is entered in today’s sixth race.

In second with seven wins is Brad Cox, who has one horse entered today and will run horses in two races Thursday and two races Friday.

Wesley Ward is third with six wins. He has horses entered in two races today, three races Thursday and two races Friday.

Javier Castellano leads the jockeys with 14 wins, including six stakes, but is not riding here this week.

Tied for second with 12 wins apiece heading into today’s competition are Florent Geroux and Joel Rosario.

Geroux is named on horses in five races today, four races tomorrow and six races Friday.

Rosario has mounts in three races today, four races Thursday and six races Friday.

Tyler Gaffalione and Luis Saez are next in the standings with 11 wins each.

Gafflione is named on horses in five races today, six races Thursday and seven races Friday.

Saez has mounts in five races today, three races tomorrow and five races Friday.

Prior to the start of Wednesday’s card, three owners were tied with three wins apiece: Robert J. Edwards Jr.’s e Five Racing Thoroughbreds, Kosta Hronis’ Hronis Racing and Khalid Abdullah’s Juddmonte Farms.

e Five has one remaining starter, Tweezer (IRE), who is cross-entered in the ninth race Thursday and the third race Friday.

Juddmonte’s final entrant is Gaining (GB) in the closing-day Bewitch (G3).

Twelve owners are tied with two wins each.
