Barn Notes: Keeneland To Host Oaks, Derby Activities For Fans

Keeneland will be open the first Friday and Saturday of May for fans to enjoy special activities while they watch and wager on Thoroughbred racing action headlined by the May 3 Kentucky Oaks (G1) and May 4 Kentucky Derby (G1) from Churchill Downs.

Reserved dining options, including Corporate Suites and the Lafayette Room, are available on the two days. Fans also are welcome to create their own picnic-style celebration throughout the grounds.

On Oaks Day, Keeneland will present a new event, Oaks Brunch on the Lawn.

From 8:30-11 a.m. on the picturesque Keeneland Clubhouse Lawn, guests will enjoy signature cocktails, live music and gourmet twists on traditional brunch dishes thoughtfully prepared by Keeneland Executive Chef Marc Therrien. A handicapping seminar for the Oaks and Derby will begin at 10 a.m.

Here are additional details about the two days:

Drive-Thru Wagering on Oaks and Derby Days will be located behind the Keeneland Entertainment Center. Fans are encouraged to enter Gate 1 (on Versailles Road at Man o’ War Blvd.) and turn right at The Meadow to access Drive-Thru Wagering.

Advance wagering: On May 2, advance wagering on the Oaks and Derby Day full cards from Churchill begins at Red Mile at 12:15 p.m. On May 3, advance wagering on the Derby full card and Oak/Derby Double is available at Keeneland and Red Mile.

May 3 Oaks Day:

  • Drive-Thru Wagering is available from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. at its new location behind the Entertainment Center.
  • Gates open at 9 a.m. General admission and parking are free.
  • Mutuel windows in the Grandstand and at Red Mile open at 10 a.m.
  • Patrons may bring foldable tables and chairs to use in the general admission areas of the Paddock and Grandstand. Coolers are permitted but are subject to inspection. (Alcohol, tents, canopies, grills, glass and pets not permitted inside the admission gates.) Click here for more information.
  • Party in the Paddock Presented by Bud Light from 4-7 pm. features drink specials and live music.
  • Approximate post time for the Oaks is 6:12 p.m.

May 4 Derby Day:

  • Drive-Thru Wagering is available from 7 a.m. at its new location behind the Entertainment Center until the approximate Derby post time of 6:50 p.m.
  • Gates open at 9 a.m. General admission is $5. Parking is free.
  • Patrons may bring foldable tables and chairs to use in the general admission areas of the Paddock and Grandstand. Coolers are permitted but are subject to inspection. (Alcohol, tents, canopies, grills, glass and pets not permitted inside the admission gates.) Click here for more information.
  • Mutuel windows in the Grandstand, on The Hill and at Red Mile open at 10 a.m.
  • The Hill is open for tailgating from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. with a big screen to watch the races and wagering locations.
  • Activities at the track include live music in the Paddock, children’s activities presented by the Keeneland Kids Club and a Derby hat contest.
  • Approximate post time for the Kentucky Derby is 6:50 p.m.

Through Keeneland Select, fans can wager online anywhere using their computers and phones. People who sign up receive $100 back in their account if they wager $300 in the first 30 days. Keeneland Select members also are eligible for exclusive Keeneland rewards.
