Keeneland September Sale Grads Sweep Saturday’s Six Major Derby, Oaks Preps

April 9, 2018

Graduates of Keeneland’s 2016 September Yearling Sale captured all six major preps for the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Kentucky Oaks (G1) held Saturday.

Champion Good Magic won the Toyota Blue Grass (G2) at Keeneland to vault to the top of the Derby points leaderboard. Justify remained undefeated with his easy win in the Santa Anita Derby (G1) to become the 3-1 favorite in the Kentucky Derby Future Wager. Vino Rosso took the Wood Memorial Presented by NYRA Bets (G2) at Aqueduct to rank fourth among the Derby point leaders.

“As a commercial breeder, we are keenly focused on developing a broodmare band that produces yearlings that can perform. As someone who races, it is special that we were able to retain an interest with e 5 and enjoy the ride.” - Barbara Banke

“Good Magic has always been first class and one of those rare horses. He’s an exceptional mover, plus he looks a lot like his sire (Curlin). His granddam was one of the first mares (my husband) Jess (Jackson) bought when he started the farm and we raced his stakes-winning dam, Glinda the Good,” said Barbara Banke when the colt won the Eclipse Award. Banke’s Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings bred Good Magic and became a partner in the colt after he sold at the 2016 September Sale. “As a commercial breeder, we are keenly focused on developing a broodmare band that produces yearlings that can perform. As someone who races, it is special that we were able to retain an interest with e 5 and enjoy the ride.”
