Keeneland September Sale Graduate War of Will Earns September Sale Book 1 Bonus with Preakness Victory

May 20, 2019

War of Will entered the 2017 September Yearling Sale Book 1 Bonus pool with his victory in the $1.5 million Preakness (G1) at Pimlico on Saturday.

The Book 1 Bonus offers cash rewards to the seller (owner at the time of sale) and owner at the time of the race of Grade or Group 1 stakes winners sold as yearlings in Book 1 of the 2017 September Sale. Breeder Flaxman Holdings Limited was the owner of War of Will at the time of sale.

Keeneland sales graduates swept the top three spots in the Preakness, with Everfast and Stonestreet Lexington (G3) winner Owendale finishing second and third, respectively.

Keeneland will pay September Sale Seller Bonuses to three other September Sale graduates – Point of HonorCovfefe and Seek and Destroy – for their weekend graded stakes wins.

Point of Honor won the Black-Eyed Susan (G2) to secure a $7,500 Seller Bonus for Siena Farm, the filly’s owner at the time of sale. Covfefe’s track record-setting victory in the Adena Springs Miss Preakness (G3) earned a $5,000 Seller Bonus for Alexander-Groves Thoroughbreds. Seek and Destroy won the Soaring Softly (G3) at Belmont Park and a $5,000 Seller Bonus for Bill Harrigan.

The Keeneland September Sale Seller Bonus Program, initiated by Keeneland in 2017, offers cash rewards to sellers (owners at the time of sale) of horses sold at the September Sale that win Grade/Group 1, 2 or 3 stakes as a 2- or 3-year-old. Sellers receive cash rewards based on the following criteria: $10,000 Seller Bonus for your first Grade/Group 1 stakes win; $7,500 for your first Grade/Group 2 win; and $5,000 for your first Grade/Group 3 victory.
