LEXINGTON, KY (Oct. 9) – Keeneland’s 2016 Fall Meet, which runs through Oct. 29, marks the track’s 80th anniversary.

Here are a few highlights from Oct. 10 over the years:

Oct. 10, 1939: Racing Hall of Famer Challedon wins the Trantor in his lone Keeneland appearance and sets the 1 3/16-mile world record of 1:54 3/5.

Oct. 10, 1959: Opening day of the 13-day Fall Meet on which Hal Price Headley wins his 100th race at Keeneland with Rash Statement in the Alcibiades (now the Grade 1, $400,000 Darley Alcibiades, won by Dancing Rags on Oct. 7).

Oct. 10, 1991: Hall of Fame jockey Pat Day wins five races.

Oct. 10, 2003: With Yell’s win in the Raven Run (G3) (now the Grade 2, $250,000 Lexus Raven Run on Oct. 22), owner Claiborne Farm becomes the first recipient of the Gold Bowl in Keeneland’s Trophy Milestone Program.

Oct. 10, 2004: Hall of Famer Azeri wins the Spinster (G1) (now the Grade 1, $500,000 Juddmonte Spinster won by I'm a Chatterbox on Oct. 9).

Oct. 10, 2013: On Make-A-Wish Day, an anonymous fan at Keeneland donates his winning Pick 4 ticket worth $26,000 to the Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana chapter of Make-A-Wish Foundation.
