Equine Safety Report

Friday, October 25

During Race 10 at Keeneland, Constituent sustained an injury and was attended to by an expert team of veterinarians led by KHRC Chief Veterinarian Dr. Nick Smith in consultation with Dr. Stuart Brown, Vice President of Equine Safety at Keeneland. During their evaluation, she was found to have sustained a fractured right humerus. Given the extent of the injury, it was determined that humane euthanasia was in the best interest of the horse. Keeneland offers our heartfelt condolences to owner John Davison and trainer Lindsay Schultz.

Fernando Jara, rider of Constituent, was immediately attended to by on-track EMS and evaluated by UK HealthCare professionals at Keeneland First Aid. He was cleared by the physician.
