Brian Hernandez Jr. (winning rider of Quiet Business)

“We learned a lot about this filly last fall with how she wanted to run. (Last October at Keeneland in a 1 3/16-mile allowance race), we kind of rushed her into the race and she didn’t care for that so much. When we got her back to Churchill (for a November race going 1 3/8 miles, we made her wait and from the three-eighths pole home that day she ran home really, really good (to win by three-quarters of a length). So that was our plan today. We wanted to get her in a nice rhythm and make sure that last three-eighths of a mile to have her running. She showed today that’s what she wants to do.”

George R. “Rusty” Arnold (winning trainer)

“This is just fate. We got lucky. We entered her in an allowance race that didn’t go and forgot to nominate her (to the race. Keeneland Racing Secretary) Ben (Huffman) told me, ‘Supplement her (to the Bewitch).’ I didn’t want to do it. I didn’t want to do it. When it came up a small field, we did it.”

Julien Leparoux (rider of runner-up Daring Duchess)

“We went pretty slow (on the lead until the stretch). She’s a big filly so I tried to get going good around the turn pretty early. She gave me everything she’s got. We just got beat today.”

Ken Ramsey (owner with his wife, Sarah, of Daring Duchess)

“Julien rode a great race. He did exactly what he was told. He gave us the best chance we had at winning. We were second best.”

Florent Geroux (rider of beaten favorite and fifth-place finisher Earring)

“She was relaxed. It was a perfect trip. She just did not have (enough) today.”
