Parsimony seeks to become the second maiden to win the Toyota Blue Grass (G2). The first was 2017 winner Irap, also raced by the successful California-based team of owner J. Paul Reddam’s Reddam Racing and trained by Doug O’Neill.
Reddam Racing’s third starter in the race was Great Hunter (fifth in 2007).
Reddam Racing and O’Neill have two wins in the Kentucky Derby (G1): I’ll Have Another (2012) and Nyquist (2016). I’ll Have Another became the champion 3-year-old male of 2012; Nyquist was the champion 2-year-old male of 2015.
At Keeneland, Reddam Racing and O’Neill teamed to win five stakes: 2006 Lane’s End Breeders’ Futurity (G1) with Great Hunter, 2013 Commonwealth (G3) with Handsome Mike, 2015 Darley Alcibiades (G1) with Gomo, 2015 Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) with Nyquist and 2017 Toyota Blue Grass (G2) with Irap. Reddam Racing also won the 2003 Ashland (G1) with Elloluv and 2008 Lane’s End Breeders’ Futurity with Square Eddie.
