LEXINGTON, KY (Jan. 19, 2016) – Keeneland sales graduates Air Force Blue, Order of St George (IRE) and Runhappy are among the horses recognized on the 2015 World’s Best Racehorse Rankings announced today by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA).
Air Force Blue, the top-weighted 2-year-old at 124 pounds, won the Dubai Dewhurst (G1), Goffs Vincent O’Brien National (G1) and Keeneland Phoenix (G1) last year. Breeder Stone Farm consigned the son of War Front to Keeneland’s 2014 September Yearling Sale, where he was purchased by M.V. Magnier for $490,000.
In November, Air Force Blue received the Cartier Award as Europe’s champion 2-year-old colt.
Winner of the Palmerstown House Estate Irish St. Leger (G1) last year, Order of St George (IRE) is the 124-pound highweight among 3-year-olds in the category of extended distance. Blandford Stud, agent, consigned the son of Galileo (IRE) to the 2013 September Sale, where he was purchased by Blandford Bloodstock for $550,000.
Runhappy, who on Saturday was honored with an Eclipse Award as North America’s champion male sprinter, is the 121-pound highweight in the category of dirt sprinter. Owner James McIngvale purchased the Super Saver colt for $200,000 at the 2013 September Sale from the consignment of breeder Ashview Farm, agent. Runhappy’s wins last year include the Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix (G3) and TwinSpires Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) at Keeneland.
American Pharoah, who captured the Triple Crown and concluded his career with a victory in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) at Keeneland, tops the rankings at 134 pounds. The first U.S.-based runner since Curlin in 2008 to be rated highest in the world, American Pharoah ran the highest-rated race of his career in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
