September Sale alumni win four of the five Russian group stakes on the Derby Day card
LEXINGTON, KY (Aug. 31, 2016) – Keeneland September Yearling Sale graduates dominated the Russian Derby Day card held Sunday, Aug. 28, at Central Moscow Hippodrome, winning five of the day’s six stakes, including all three Russian Group 1 events, led by Martin Night Bars' victory in the Russian Derby.
Owner Barsuk T.L. Farm was represented by three of the day’s stakes winners, including Martin Night Bars, winner by a head of the 4 million (RUB) Russian Derby, which is contested over 2,400 meters (1½ miles). Other winners for Barsuk T.L. Farm were September Sale graduates Conard Lord, who captured the 2 million (RUB) N.N. Nasibov Cup (G1), and Dominika Bars, who took the 500,000 (RUB) Russian Racecourses PLC Stakes, both held at 2,400 meters.
Martin Night Bars is a 3-year-old Malibu Moon colt bred in Virginia by Audley Farm Equine and consigned to the 2014 September Sale by Brookdale Sales, agent. He was purchased for $70,000 by Blackstone Farm.
Keeneland will offer a half-brother to Martin Night Bars by Bodemeister (Hip #2495) at the 2016 September Sale, to be held Sept. 12-25.
Barsuk Racing paid $55,000 for Conard Lord, a 4-year-old Congrats colt sold by Gainesway, agent, at the 2013 September Sale. Conard Lord was bred in Kentucky by Stuart Huston and Helen Alexander.
A half-brother to Conard Lord by Data Link (Hip #3441) will be offered at the upcoming September Sale.
Bred in Kentucky by Rosemont Farm, Dominika Bars is a 3-year-old filly by Kitten’s Joy. She sold for $30,000 to Blackstone Farm at the 2014 September Sale, where she was consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.
Eduard Mordukhovitch and Vartan Vartanov’s Karaul, a graduate of the 2015 September Sale, triumphed in the 1.5 million (RUB) 2YO Grand Prix (G1) run at one mile. The Shackleford colt, bred in West Virginia by Hector Alcalde, was consigned by Select Sales, agent, and bought for $27,000 by MAB Agency.
Ikaryi, a 4-year-old colt by Indian Charlie owned by Donskoy Stud, won the 1 million (RUB) Grand Sprinters Stakes, a Russian Group 2 race over 1,200 meters (six furlongs). Ikaryi was consigned to the 2013 September Sale by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent, and sold for $85,000 to Stone Bridge Bloodstock. He was bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm.
Earlier this summer, Donskoy Stud’s Tiger Kid, a September Sale graduate, won Russia’s richest race, the 10 million (RUB) President of the Russian Federation Stakes, a Russian Group 1 event for older horses at 2,400 meters. Stone Bridge Bloodstock bought the son of Lemon Drop Kid for $55,000 from Eaton Sales, agent, at the 2012 September Sale. The 4-year-old Tiger Kid was bred in Kentucky by Michael Rutherford.
