January 14, 2016

LEXINGTON, KY (Jan. 14, 2016) – Prom Time, a 10-year-old daughter of Tale of the Cat who is a half-sister to the dam of 2015 Grade 1 winner Cavorting, sold to Warrendale Sales agent for Tom Bachman, for $102,000, the highest price of Thursday’s fourth session of the five-day Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale.

Prom Time was consigned by Eaton Sales, agent for the Dispersal of the Estate of Mr. and Mrs. Howard M. Bender. Out of the winning Pleasant Colony mare Promenade Colony, she is a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Promenade Girl, dam of last year’s Longines Test (G1), Adirondack (G2) and Prioress (G2) winner Cavorting. Prom Time also is from the family of Grade 1 winners Another Review and No Review and Grade 2 winners Dance Colony, Blueskiesnrainbows and Sparkling Review.

On Thursday, Keeneland sold 248 horses for $3,204,000, for an average of $12,919 and a median of $7,250. Total sales were down slightly from the $3,432,800 for 254 horses during the corresponding session last year on the final day of the sale. The average of $12,919 is just below the $13,515 in 2015, while the median of $7,250 nearly equals $7,500 last year.

Cumulatively, Keeneland has sold 843 horses for $33,672,900, down 4.62 percent from $35,305,500 for 948 horses for the entire sale last year. The average of $39,944 rose 7.26 percent from $37,242 in 2015. The median of $15,000 is just off the last year’s $16,000.

At $100,000, the day’s second-highest price and the most expensive yearling sold in the session is the colt by Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Super Saver purchased by Calumet Farm. Hidden Brook, agent, consigned the colt out of the El Prado (IRE) mare Silver Sands, who descends from Grade 1 winner Pattern Step.

Paramount Sales was the session’s leading consignor, selling 34 horses for $491,900.

With the purchase of the session-topper, the leading buyer was Warrendale Sales, agent for Tom Bachman.

The final session of the January Sale begins Friday at 10 a.m. ET. The sale is streamed live at Keeneland.com.
