Belmont Favorites and Champions among Keeneland Sales Graduates Competing on Saturday

Keeneland sales graduates, among them We the People and Mo Donegal, early favorites for the $1.5 million Belmont (G1) Presented by NYRA Bets, and champions Channel Maker, Echo Zulu and Malathaat headline the graded stakes held as part of the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival celebration on Saturday. 

Seven Keeneland sales alumni – including morning-line favorite We the People and second choice Mo Donegal – are among the eight contenders in the Belmont. 

Nine of the past 16 Belmont winners have come from Keeneland sales: Sir Winston (2019), undefeated Triple Crown winner Justify (2018), Creator (2016), Palace Malice (2013), Ruler On Ice (2011), Drosselmeyer (2010), Da’Tara (2008), Rags to Riches (2007) and Jazil (2006).

Notable Keeneland sales graduates are competing in Grade 1 stakes on the Belmont Day undercard:

• Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) winner Aloha West highlights the field for the Hill ‘n’ Dale Metropolitan (G1), a “Win & You’re In” event for the 2022 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) to be held at Keeneland; 
• Channel Maker, 2020 champion turf male, multimillionaire and winner of the Elkhorn (G2) in April at Keeneland, goes postward in the Resorts World Casino Manhattan (G1);
• Champion filly Echo Zulu is featured in the Acorn (G1); 
• Multiple Grade 1 winner Regal Glory, winner of the Matriarch (G1), TAA Pegasus World Cup Filly and Mare Turf Invitational (G3) and Keeneland’s Jenny Wiley (G1) in April, tops entries for the Just a Game (G1); 
• Champion Malathaat, winner of Keeneland’s Doubledogdare (G3) in April, and Grade 1 winner Search Results seek an automatic berth in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) with a win in the Ogden Phipps (G1); and 
• Grade 1 winner Casa Creed defends his title in the Jaipur (G1), a Challenge event for the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1).
