June 1, 2022

Today’s New York Hot List races to watch – Thursday, June 2, 2022 at Belmont Park
By Matt Shifman and Bob Ehalt

Hot List Key:
 A:
A preferred horse to watch                         B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
* - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

3rd race [Alw 92000 N1X, 7F TURF] – (3) Subsidize (C) returned to the grass in a starter allowance and rallied along the rail to win after getting bet down from 5-1 to 3-1. (2) Big Everest (B) has been away from the races since October when he broke badly, was then rank on the backstretch, and eventually finished third. (7) Devil’s Outlaw broke his maiden for Chad Brown after more than a year off in his first start in America. (9) Grooms All Bizness returns from a September layoff after winning his debut at Monmouth Park and then tried a stake at the Jersey Shore.

4th race [Md Sp Wt, 6F] – (5) Capone (B) set the pace and finished second well ahead of the rest of the field last month going seven furlongs. (3) For Good will make his debut for Chad Brown and eFive Racing. The $800,000 yearling purchase is a full brother of Good Magic. (6) Sidekick will make his first start for Shug McGaughey. He is out of a dam that produced 8 winners from 9 to race and is a half-brother of Code of Honor. (8) Flash Kiss is another firster that sold for $175,000 as a 2-year-old and that is a lot of money for a horse with a modest pedigree whose recent sibling sold for only $6,000.

5th race [NY, Md 25000, 6F] – (7) Lady Yellen continues to drop down the claiming ladder after flashing speed and running sixth last month and surprisingly gets Irad Ortiz to ride. (4) Phenomenal Woman set the pace last time and finished second against similar company. (1) Big Bean Christine was third last month for a $40,000 tag. (6) Dini’s Destiny moved from dirt to turf and dropped down in class producing a third-place finish.

6th race [Alw 92000 N1X, 7F TURF] – (10) Supply and Demand came back from a three-month layoff to rally eight-wide to get third beaten by only a half-length. (7) Biz Biz Buzz will get Lasix for the first time and Irad Ortiz in the saddle in his 2022 debut. Last time on the turf he set the pace and finished third in the Pulpit at Gulfstream Park. (5) Pirate Life won both of his starts at Gulfstream including a turf starter allowance in March. (3) Microphone was heavily bet for Chad Brown since he won his debut in January at Tampa. He had two allowance starts since then and gets Flavien Prat on board.

Best bets:  Capone (4th); Lady Yellen (5th). Best value:  Subsidize (3rd); Supply and Demand (6th).
