Cambier Parc Follows Winning Pattern for Brown in Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Presented by Lane's End

Trainer Chad Brown picked up his third victory in the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Presented by Lane’s End (G1) on Saturday when OXO Equine’s Cambier Parc led all the way to a 1-length victory.

“There was not a lot of pace yesterday and Johnny (Velazquez) took advantage of it,” said Whit Beckman, who is overseeing Brown’s Keeneland string. “The same thing happened last year when Rushing Fall won and when Dayatthespa won (in 2012): The fractions were soft and she led all the way.”

Brown also saddled Peter Brant’s Café Americano to a fourth-place finish while Paul Pompa Jr.’s Regal Glory finished sixth.

“He was pleased with their performances,” Beckman said. “They all came out of the race well and it is my understanding they will all get a break.”

Godolphin’s Castle Lady (IRE), who finished a clear second in her first start since June, came out of the race well. according to exercise rider Luc Chasserio. Castle Lady is scheduled to return to France and rejoin trainer Henri-Alex Pantall’s stable on Tuesday.

Three Chimneys Farm’s Princesa Carolina also exited the race well, according to Pat Gilligan, assistant to trainer Kenny McPeek. After the race, McPeek indicated a possible next spot for Saturday’s third-place finisher could be the American Oaks (G1) at the end of the year at Santa Anita.

Augustin Stable’s homebred Varenka will be returning to Fair Hill Training Center in Maryland at trainer Graham Motion’s main base with plans to be determined, according to Motion assistant Alice Clapham.

“She is good this morning,” Clapham said of Varenka, who finished fifth. “She tried hard and that’s all you can ask.”

Sanford Bacon and Patrick Biancone Racing’s Kelsey’s Cross was scheduled to return to Florida tomorrow and get a break, according to assistant trainer Andie Biancone.

Her Majesty, The Queen’s Magnetic Charm (GB), who pressed the pace before dropping back to finish eighth, came out of the race fine, according to exercise rider Jess Campbell. Magnetic Charm was scheduled to leave this afternoon to return to England for trainer William Haggas.
