Camp Hope Wins Wednesday’s Featured Whisper Hill Purse

April 20, 2022

Walking L. Thoroughbreds’ favored Camp Hope remained perfect in three starts over the Keeneland turf course by posting a nose victory over Beacon Hill in Wednesday’s featured $130,000 Whisper Hill Purse for 4-year-olds and up. (Click here for a replay of the race.)

Trained by Kenny McPeek and ridden by Brian Hernandez Jr., Camp Hope covered the mile and a sixteenth on a firm course in 1:40.33.

Getting a ground-saving trip from Hernandez, Camp Hope shot through on the inside of Street Ready to grab the lead at the eighth pole and then held off bids from T D Dance and then Beacon Hill to improve his record to 11-4-0-2. His other Keeneland turf victories came last fall in an allowance test and the Bryan Station Stakes.

A Keeneland sales graduate, Camp Hope is a 4-year-old Kentucky-bred son of Summer Front out of the Pulpit mare Praising. With Wednesday’s check of $75,563, Camp Hope’s career earnings rose to $301,620.

Camp Hope returned $9, $5.20 and $3.60. Beacon Hill, ridden by Joel Rosario, returned $5.20 and $3.80 and finished a nose in front of T D Dance, who paid $3.60 to show under Irad Ortiz Jr.
