Daddy Is a Legend Wins Thursday’s Featured Haggin Purse

 Making her 2021 debut, Susan and Jim Hill’s Grade 3 winner Daddy Is a Legend wore down Winter Sunset to score a three-quarter-length victory in the $87,000 Haggin Purse for older fillies and mares Thursday, the penultimate day of Keeneland’s Spring Meet. (Click here for a replay of the race.)

One of three winners on the afternoon for jockey Joel Rosario, Daddy Is a Legend covered 1 1/16 miles on the turf course labeled good in 1:44.24. She is trained by George Weaver.

A Keeneland sales graduate, Daddy Is a Legend is a 6-year-old daughter of Scat Daddy out of the Benchmark mare Randie’s Legend. Today’s victory was worth $36,300, which increased her career earnings to $585,210 with a record of 18-5-3-4. Winner of the 2017 Jimmy Durante (G3) at Del Mar and 2018 Lake George (G3) at Saratoga, Daddy Is a Legend was second in the 2018 and 2019 runnings of the Matriarch (G1) at Del Mar and was third in four graded stakes, including the 2019 Just a Game (G1) at Belmont Park.

The 7-5 favorite in the fifth Keeneland start of her career, Daddy Is a Legend paid $4.80, $3.40 and $3.60. Winter Sunset, with Florent Geroux aboard, returned $6.80 and $4.60. Temple City Terror, ridden by John Velazquez, finished third and paid $4.40 to show.

Friday is closing day of Keeneland’s Spring Meet with a 10-race card that begins at 1:05 p.m. The featured ninth race is the 59th running of the $150,000 Bewitch (G3) for older fillies and mares racing 1½ miles on the turf course. Post time for the Bewitch is 5:30 p.m.
