Fighting Seabee Wins Thursday’s Featured Clarkland Farm Purse

Walking L Thoroughbreds’ Fighting Seabee found room along the rail in the stretch to pull away for a 1¼-length victory over Invader to win Thursday’s $83,000 Clarkland Farm Purse for 4-year-olds and up. (Click here for a replay of the race.)

Trained by Kenny McPeek and ridden by Brian Hernandez Jr., Fighting Seabee covered the 1 1/16 miles on a turf course rated as good in 1:43.04.

Fighting Seabee, winner of the With Anticipation (G3) at Saratoga as a 2-year-old in 2019, is a Kentucky-bred son of Summer Front out of the Broken Vow mare Broke N Dixie. Thursday’s $49,800 check increased his career earnings to $215,015 with a record of 10-3-2-0.

Fighting Seabee returned $38, $14 and $9.60. Invader, who set the pace under Joel Rosario, edged entrymate Opry and Luis Saez by a nose for second with the entry returning payoffs of $4 and $4.20.

Racing resumes Friday with a 10-race program beginning at 1:05 p.m. and headlined by the 33rd running of the $300,000 Maker’s Mark Mile (G1) that goes as the afternoon’s ninth race with a 5:30 p.m. post time.

In Thursday’s ninth and final race, 55-year-old jockey Martin Pedroza, riding his first race in 18 months, posted a front-running, 3¼-length victory on Ken and Sarah Ramsey’s homebred first-time starter Cornbread Hill. Trained by Wesley Ward, Cornbread Hill ($13.80) covered the 6 furlongs in 1:10.40.
