Galloping Out, April 5

April 5, 2022

St. George Stable’s Letruska, the 2021 Eclipse Award winner as champion older dirt female, is scheduled to arrive at Keeneland Wednesday from Palm Meadows Training Center in Florida, according to trainer Fausto Gutierrez.

A four-time Grade 1 winner last year including the Juddmonte Spinster at Keeneland, Letruska is being pointed to the $1 million Apple Blossom (G1) to be run April 23. She is the Apple Blossom’s defending champion.

Godolphin’s homebred Mystic Guide, winner of last year’s Dubai World Cup Sponsored by Emirates Airline (G1), is back in trainer Michael Stidham’s Keeneland barn.

“He is going to start working soon,” Stidham said. “We have no target (for a comeback race) picked out.”

Mystic Guide was sidelined last summer and had another setback at the end of the year after a couple of 3-furlong works at Fair Grounds. He has been galloping in recent weeks under the care of Keeneland-based Johnny Burke.
