Keeneland-Based Campanelle (IRE) in Action Friday at Royal Ascot

Stonestreet Stables’ Campanelle (IRE), who is based at Keeneland with trainer Wesley Ward, will bid for her second win at Royal Ascot when she competes in Friday’s Commonwealth Cup (G1) on the penultimate day of the world-famous five-day meeting in England.

Frankie Dettori will ride Campanelle, a 3-year-old daughter of Kodiac who won the Queen Mary (G2) last year. The Commonwealth Cup marks her 2021 debut.

Ward, who sent nine horses to compete at Royal Ascot this year, has 11 wins at the prestigious gathering. His other two-time winner is Stonestreet’s Lady Aurelia, who won the 2016 Queen Mary and 2017 King’s Stand (G1).

King Edward VII Stakes (G2) (3-year-old colts and geldings, 1½ miles) at 10:05 a.m. ET:

  • Team Valor and Manton Park own Keeneland sales graduate Gloucestershire, by Flintshire (GB). Legacy Bloodstock, agent, consigned the colt as a weanling to the 2018 November Breeding Stock Sale, where he sold to J.C. Bloodstock for $145,000. Martyn Meade trains Gloucestershire, who will be ridden by Oisin Murphy.

Commonwealth Cup (G1) (3-year-olds, 6 furlongs) at 10:40 a.m.:

  • Campanelle
  • Lipizzaner, a son of Uncle Mo, sold to Ben McElroy, agent, for $650,000 at Keeneland’s 2019 September Yearling Sale from the consignment of Eaton Sales, agent. Bred by Irish Lights Syndicate, the colt races for Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and Mrs. John Magnier. He will be ridden by Ryan Moore for trainer Aidan O’Brien.

Jersey (G3) (3-year-olds, 7 furlongs) at 10:05 a.m.:

  • M.V. Magnier and Peter Brant’s White Birch Farm paid $1 million for Khartoum at the 2019 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. Bred by RanJan Racing, the colt by Pioneerof the Nile was consigned by Lane’s End, agent. Aidan O’Brien trains Khartoum for owners Derrick Smith, Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Brant. Ryan Moore will ride.

Golden Gate (3-year-olds, 1¼ miles) at 12:35 p.m.:

  • Kenneth L. and Sarah K. Ramsey bred Keeneland sales graduate Isle of Sark, a colt by Kitten’s Joy. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent, to the 2019 September Sale, he sold for $100,000 to Margaret O’Toole, agent. Joseph O’Brien trains Isle of Sark for owner Teme Valley. Adam Kirby will ride.
