Keeneland Sales Graduates Keeper Ofthe Stars, Charmaine’s Mia Headline Grade 1 Gamely on Memorial Day

Keeneland sales alumni figure prominently in Santa Anita’s trio of Grade 1 stakes slated for Memorial Day.

Keeper ofthe Stars defends her title in the Gamely off a runner-up finish in her last start, the San Francisco Mile (G3). Among her challengers are Charmaine’s Mia, a winner of three starts in 2021, all graded stakes, including the Grade 2 Buena Vista and Royal Heroine, and multiple graded stakes winner Maxim Rate.

Graded stakes winners Country Grammer and Express Train, both graduates of the 2018 September Yearling Sale, highlight the field for the Hollywood Gold Cup. Country Grammer finished second by a neck in the Californian (G2) in his last start. Express Train won the San Pasqual (G2) to open 2021, followed by a second and third, respectively, in the Santa Anita Handicap (G1) and Oaklawn Handicap (G2). 

Grade 1 winner Next Shares and graded stakes-placed Restrainedvengence seek an automatic berth in the 2021 FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) with a victory in the Shoemaker Mile (G1).
