Keeneland Sales & Racing Update, Dec. 18

December 18, 2020

To our customers:

As we wind down what has certainly been an unusual year, I would like to take this opportunity to thank each of you. We could never have fathomed the challenges that we faced in 2020. However, we came together as an industry and showed our resilience when it mattered most. While our racing and sales looked different this year, we are humbled and grateful to our horsemen, clients, partners, bettors, fans and team members that supported our Summer and Fall race meets, the September and November sales and the Breeders’ Cup World Championships. When the world thought we couldn’t do it, this industry made it happen. On behalf of Keeneland, thank you!

The conclusion of 2020 is also bittersweet for the Keeneland family as our President and CEO Bill Thomason retires after a decade at Keeneland and a lifetime of service to the Thoroughbred industry. We will miss Bill greatly but wish him all the best in this new chapter as he is able to spend more time with his wonderful family. I hope you’ll join me in congratulating him on the tremendous impact he has made here at Keeneland and within the Thoroughbred industry.

As we close out the year, we also have a few updates for you related to the January Sale which will take place January 11-14. The team is working diligently on preparations for the sale and we look forward to seeing you in the new year!

Thank you again for your continued support and I wish each of you a safe, healthy and happy holiday and a 2021 full of hope and opportunity.

All the best,

Shannon Arvin

January Sale Protocols

Keeneland has released its health and safety protocols for the January Horses of All Ages Sale, which takes place Jan. 11-14. For the safety of all participants, the policies and procedures are very much consistent with those you experienced in September and November. A few highlights:

  • Attendance at the January Sale will again be limited to credentialed sales participants. Please apply for a new credential in the Virtual Badge app. Your credential from the November Sale will not be valid for the January Sale.
  • COVID-19 testing will again be required for all consignors, veterinarians, farriers, media, Keeneland employees and essential staff. Keeneland will offer testing on-site December 28 & 29 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Keene Barn & Entertainment Center. However, your test does not have to be taken at Keeneland.
  • Access to the Keeneland grounds will be restricted to those with January Sale credentials beginning Friday, January 8 through Thursday, January 14.
