Keeneland September Sale Graduates Malathaat, Search Results Run 1-2 in Kentucky Oaks

April 30, 2021

Keeneland September Yearling Sale graduates Malathaat and Search Results finished 1-2 in the Kentucky Oaks (G1) today at Churchill Downs.

Keeneland sales have produced the past five winners of the Kentucky Oaks (G1): champion Abel Tasman (2017), champion Monomoy Girl (2018), Serengeti Empress (2019), Shedaresthedevil (2020) and Malathaat (2021).

Owner Shadwell Stable paid $1.05 million for Malathaat at the 2019 September Sale. Bred by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings, she was consigned by Denali Stud, agent for Stonestreet Bred & Raised. Malathaat is trained by Todd Pletcher and was ridden by John Velazquez.

Undefeated in five starts, Malathaat was favored in the Kentucky Oaks following a win in Keeneland’s Central Bank Ashland (G1) on April 3. She becomes the 14th filly to win the Central Bank Ashland and Kentucky Oaks. Thirty-five fillies who have competed in the Central Bank Ashland have won the Oaks.

Select Sales, agent for breeder Machmer Hall, consigned Oaks runner-up Search Results to the 2019 September Sale, where she sold to Mike Ryan, agent, for $310,000. The filly is owned by Klaravich Stables and trained by Chad Brown. She was ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr.
