Leparoux Approaching Keeneland Milestone

April 1, 2021

With his next victory at Keeneland, jockey Julien Leparoux will record his 500th win at Keeneland and become only the fourth rider to reach that milestone. On Friday’s opening day of the Spring Meet, Leparoux is named to ride horses in four races. He is named to ride horses in four races on Saturday.

From the 1980 Spring Meet through the 2004 Fall Meet, Hall of Famer Pat Day captured a record 918 races. Don Brumfield, who also is in the Hall of Fame, is second with 716 victories recorded from the 1959 Spring Meet through the 1989 Spring Meet. Third is Robby Albarado, who scored his first of 526 wins during the 1996 Fall Meet and remains active.

Leparoux won his first race at Keeneland during the 2005 Fall Meet during his first season as a jockey. Since then, he has earned 12 titles as leading jockey during a Keeneland race meet, most recently during the 2019 Fall Meet.

This success at Keeneland has helped Leparoux earn two Eclipse Awards for being the best in his field: as an apprentice in 2006 and again in 2009.

In his career, Leparoux has won 2,789 races and has mount earnings of $173.8 million.
