Local player Peter McFarland takes down the Keeneland Fall BCBC-NHC Challenge

October 11, 2020

Peter McFarland, a Lexington stockbroker and a Keeneland VIP player, caught lightning in a bottle in the last race, wagering $400 to win on 29-1 Critical Threat, and backed it up with a $3 trifecta to cash for over $16,000 and finish first in the Fall BCBC-NHC Challenge.  The fruits of his score included $35,000 in cash, a fully paid $10,000 entry into the 2020 BCBC at Keeneland, and a berth in the 2021 NHC.

McFarland bested 170 players, including 2nd place finisher Dennis Tiernan of Montgomery, TX, who also found the bomb in the last race, cashing a $418 win bet and a $20 double to cash for over $15,000.  Second place was worth $18,000, a BCBC spot, and an NHC entry.

Ironically, with the vast majority of players participating on ADW outlets XpressBet, TVG, 4NJBets and NYRA Bets, the top two finishers were here at Keeneland.  McFarland played through TVG but was in the Green Room as part of a select group of horseplayers who were invited to come to the meet.  Tiernan cannot play from an ADW in Texas so he traveled to Keeneland to play live.

In addition to McFarland and Tiernan, Jeff Arthur, Eric Kurzhal and Ron Myeress won cash, a $10,000 BCBC entry, and a berth in the NHC.  Marshall Gramm finished 6th but was already double-qualified for the NHC so the 7th through 9th finishers, Mark Rudy, Nick Tammaro, and Tim Stupka won NHC berths.
