October 16, 2019

Sandra New’s Louder Than Bombs dug in along the rail and held off a stretch-long bid from odds-on favorite Emaraaty (GB) to win the $75,000 Mt. Brilliant Purse for 3-year-olds and up by a nose before a chilled Wednesday afternoon crowd of 8,701. (Click here for a replay of the race.)

Trained by David Fawkes and ridden by Ricardo Santana Jr., Louder Than Bombs covered the mile on a turf course rated as good in 1:37.69.

A Keeneland sales graduate, Louder Than Bombs is a 3-year-old Kentucky-bred son of Violence out of the More Than Ready mare Orabella. The victory was worth $45,000 and improved Louder Than Bombs’ earnings to $175,380 with a record of 13-3-1-2.

Louder Than Bombs returned $40.40, $11.60 and $5.80. Emaraaty, ridden by Javier Castellano, returned $3 and $2.40 and finished 1¾ lengths in front of Patriot Drive and Lascaux, who finished in a dead heat for third. Patriot Drive, with Jose Ortiz up, paid $2.20 and Lascaux, ridden by Miguel Mena, returned $9.20 to show.
