My Prankster, Tejano Twist Top Field of 12 for Lafayette

April 5, 2022

Robert and Lawana Low’s My Prankster, winner of the Swale (G3) in his most recent start, and Tom Durant’s homebred Tejano Twist, first or second in eight of his 10 career starts, headline a field of a dozen 3-year-olds entered Tuesday for Friday’s 74th running of the $400,000 Lafayette going 7 furlongs on the main track.

One of three stakes to be held on the opening day of the 15-day Spring Meet, the Lafayette will go as the seventh race on the 10-race program with a 4:12 p.m. ET post time. First post Friday is 1 p.m.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, My Prankster returns to Keeneland for the first time since finishing second in last fall’s closing-day Bowman Mill. Luis Saez, who has been aboard for all three of My Prankster’s victories, has the call Friday and will break from post eight.

Tejano Twist, who drew post 12, was a 7¼-length allowance winner at Keeneland last fall, and he closed his 2021 campaign by finishing second to top Kentucky Derby (G1) contender Epicenter in the Gun Runner at Fair Grounds. Joe Rocco Jr. has the mount Friday for trainer Bret Calhoun.

The field for the Lafayette, with riders and weights from the rail out, is: Osbourne (Tyler Gaffalione, 118 pounds), Money Supply (Jose Ortiz, 118), Old Homestead (Thomas Pompell, 118), Surfer Dude (Irad Ortiz Jr., 118), All in Sync (Joel Rosario, 118), American Xperiment (Corey Lanerie, 118), Barossa (Flavien Prat, 118), My Prankster (Saez, 120), Unified Report (Brian Hernandez Jr., 118), Magnolia Midnight (John Velazquez, 118), Ignitis (Luis Contreras, 118) and Tejano Twist (Rocco Jr., 118).
