Thursday’s Session 10 of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale marked the fourth consecutive day of across-the-board increases and was led by a colt by Vekoma sold to Pin Oak Stud for $260,000.

Consigned by VanMeter Sales, the colt is out of winner Don’t Charge It, by Take Charge Indy, and from the family of stakes winners Shop Till You Drop, Competitive Speed, Our Shopping Spree, In Rome, Winning Romance, Jack Hammer, Our Moneyman and Gotham Gala.

On Thursday, Keeneland sold 311 yearlings through the ring for $14,219,000, a 13.16% increase from last year’s gross of $12,565,000 for 298 horses. Average price of $45,720 climbed 8.43% from $42,164 last year. The median rose 6.67%% from $30,000 to $32,000. 

Cumulative through-the-ring sales are $525,899,500 for 2,338 yearlings for an average of $224,936 and a median of $125,000. Compared to the first 10 sessions of the auction last year, the gross is up 5.14% from $500,189,500, while the average increased 6.67% from $210,872 and the median is 4.17% higher than $120,000.

Seventy yearlings have sold for $1 million or more compared to 56 last year.

In other sales Thursday,

Kenneth McPeek, agent, was the session’s leading buyer, spending $715,000 for five horses. Leading his purchases were two yearlings purchased for $210,000 each.

The first was a colt by Maclean’s Music from the family of Grade 1 winner and leading sire Tapit. Consigned by Ashview Farm, agent, he is out of the winning Tiznow mare Sky Gesture and also from the family of champion Rubiano; Grade 2 winners Madefromlucky, In Tune and Dubleo; and Grade 3 winner Glitterman.

McPeek also paid $210,000 for a filly by Complexity consigned by Brookdale, agent. Out of Imprint, by Quality Road, she is from the family of Group 1 winners Gold and Ivory, Heart of Darkness and India. 

A third yearling brought $210,000.

Millard R. Seldon Revocable Trust spent the amount for a colt by Dialed In consigned by Ledgelands, agent. Out of My Lil Shamrock, a winning stakes-paced daughter of City Zip, he is from the family of Grade/Group 3 winners Daloma (FR) and Riot Grrrl and stakes winners Gig Harbor, Alonso and Richies Sweetheart.

Two yearlings sold for $200,000 each.

Killora, agent, consigned the first, a filly by Jackie’s Warrior purchased by Burns Racing. She is out of Gran Letizia, a winning daughter of Broken Vow, and from the family of Group 2 winner King of Light and Group 3 winner Spirit Bird. 

Iconic Thoroughbreds paid $200,000 for a daughter of Maclean’s Music out of Hughes Clues, by Malibu Moon. Consigned by Norevale Farm, agent, she is from the family of Grade 1 winner Bevo; Grade 2 winners Wilburn, Beethoven and Grand Sonata; and Grade 3 winners Moonlight d’Oro, Moonlight Sonata and Ballerina d’Oro.

The session’s leading consignor was Taylor Made Sales Agency, which sold 36 horses for $1,664,000.
