By Matt Shifman and Bob Ehalt

Hot List Key:
 A:
A preferred horse to watch                           B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
* - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

1st race – (7) Bossy Bride makes the big drop in class from starter allowance and allowance races to this N2L claimer. She won a maiden special weight last year at Laurel and now makes her second start for trainer Rob Atras. (3) First Dawn missed by a neck in her last start in a similar mile race at Aqueduct. (2) Cairo Queen will stretch out to the mile after also running second for trainer Joe Lee who has taken over from Kiaran McLaughlin. (6) Smiles From Sadie switches to hot apprentice rider Romero Maragh after hitting the board the board at this level a few times.

3rd race – (8) Masons Friend makes the drop from maiden special weight to maiden claimer and goes from open company to NY-bred racing. She was 6- 1 in her debut where she ran fifth at Aqueduct last month. (1) Moneybackguarantee dropped into a state-bred maiden claimer last time and pressed the pass while running third. (9) Cornetta’s Choice returned at Laurel from almost a year off in an open company maiden claimer and now ships up to New York to run against state-breds. (2) Mizzen the Mark ran second in her debut race at 8-1 in the same kind of race.

5th race – (3) Frozen Account (B) was bumped out of the gate and had trouble getting his footing on the sloppy track in his debut for Carlos Martin who rarely wins with first-timers. He was eighth in the early going some 14-lengths behind in a 6.5 furlong sprint. He saved some ground early on and then fanned wide to rally for third. He now switches barns to Kelly Breen. (4) Whichwaytomalibu (B/C) was eased in December and then came back in his fourth try in the state-bred maiden special weight ranks and was bet from 6-1 to 7-2. Going a mile, he pressed the pace that was set by a Todd Pletcher second-time starter who eventually drew off to win easily. Whichwaytomalibu finished second far ahead of the others. (6) Beg to Differ changed from turf to dirt after an October layoff to run third beaten by only part of a length while racing very wide. (5) Unrelenting Force was claimed by Ray Handal after a second and now steps up to a maiden special weight with blinkers on.

7th race – (4) Payne exits two victories in a row for Chad Brown and now returns from a December layoff after winning a second-level allowance going a mile. (5) Musical America ran second behind Belmont Stakes winner Sir Winston in a race with the same conditions as this race. (3) Roaming Union was claimed for $62,500 and is now in for an $80,000 tag for new trainer Rob Atras. (2) Felix in Fabula has a great record at Aqueduct and in races going a mile.

Best bets:  Bossy Bride (1st); Payne (7th).  Best value:  Masons Friend (3rd); Frozen Account (5th).
