Aqueduct Hotlist - March 14

March 13, 2020

Today’s New York Hot List races to watch – Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Aqueduct
By Matt Shifman and Bob Ehalt

Hot List Key:
 A:
A preferred horse to watch                                       B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worst
* - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

2nd race – (6) Justice of War (C) made that difficult jump from a $20,000 maiden claiming victory to face winners in a $40,000 N2L claimer and was bet from 6-1 to 7-2 for Linda Rice. My rule of thumb is that in the move to face winners the claiming price should be below that of the maiden race. Making a jump in tag, he picked up a couple of positions to get third. Rice did claim him for $20,000 and he now drops in for $16,000. (2) Preternatural (D) made his second start after a layoff from June in this N2L condition. His record didn’t seem to merit getting bet down from 6-1 to 7-2. He raced very wide throughout the 6.5 furlongs beginning in sixth and then tired down the stretch. (1) Our Stormin Norman like others in this field have had many tries to get their second career win. He drops in tag now after hitting the board in several recent starts in this N2L condition. (4) Legion Storm can get the same comment as the #1 plus he cuts back in distance for Linda Rice.

7th race – (5) Awesome Debate makes her second start off a long layoff for Charlie Baker where he had the lead in a similar race last month. She doesn’t need to improve, a repeat of that performance should win this race. (8) Peggy Sue has had a series of very good finishes in open company claimers and now returns to NY-bred competition where she broke her maiden for Linda Rice. (1) Dirty Bird was claimed out of an open company N3L claimer and returns to state-bred racing where she has two of her three career victories. (7) Wailin Josie has a few top three finishes in these NY-bred first level allowances.

8th race – (8) Kept True was first or second in her last three starts with the two most recent coming in NY-bred stakes. She earned her top speed figure in her last race victory and now moves to open company with the best recent form in the field. (5) Piedi Bianchi won a second level allowance in her return from a year layoff. She is the leading money winner in the race based on past starts in graded stakes races. There is speed in the field to set-up her closing move. (2) Bridlewood Cat has good speed figures and should be part of the early pace. (1) Slimey is in very good form right now and has a closing move that first well in this field.

9th race – (11) Honey Money (A) made her debut for Linda Rice in a NY-bred maiden special weight going six-furlongs at Aqueduct. She is out of an unraced mare who has one other runner who is a NY-bred stakes winner of almost $200,000. Honey Money stalked the pace, had the lead in the stretch, but was run down by an experienced filly and was well ahead of the others. Rice is, of course, a frequent winner with her second-time runners. (10) Darling’s Cure ran third in her debut at Laurel last month against open company and now ships up to Aqueduct to face NY-breds. (6) Dancing Kiki cuts back in distance to six furlongs after a series of races that make her a factor to win this race. (9) Mopolka is the third foal out of a stakes winning mare of more than $500,000 by the sire Uncle Mo.

Best bets: Justice of War (2nd); Kept True (8th).             Best value:  Awesome Debate (7th); Honey Money (9th).
