By Matt Shifman and Bob Ehalt

Hot List Key:
 A:
A preferred horse to watch                                       B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worst
* - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

3rd race – (5) Ilchester Cheetah rides a two-race win streak heading into the Cicada Stakes sprinting six-furlongs. The Jeremiah O’Dwyer trainee won an Aqueduct allowance on the front end last month. (1) Spanish Point broke her maiden at Belmont Park in September for Jorge Abreu and since then has a win and a third in stakes at Gulfstream Park. He ships back to New York for this spot. (3) Cofactor won three races in a row ending with a stake victory at Laurel back in the fall. She’s had some time off for Kelly Breen who has been having a good winter at Aqueduct. (2) Two Sixty ships up from Mark Casse’s training center in Florida. She won a stake a Tampa Bay this winter earning a very competitive speed figure.

4th race – (9) Captain Frost looks like a standout in this $8,000 claimer. Linda Rice drops him back to this level where he won by nine-lengths. After that big score, he was over-matched in a NY-bred allowance. (5) Diamond Setter was claimed last time at Parx for $12,500 by trainer Michael Pino. He will cut back to a one-turn mile while dropping down in price. (1) War Bridle also ships up to New York from Parx, which has cancelled racing for two weeks at least. He was third for $12,500 after a stumble start. (7) So Sublime flashed speed, had the lead, and finished third last time at Aqueduct for a $10,000 tag.

5th race – (5) Dr. Devera’s Way (C) got blinkers on and made his third start for $25,000 in a N2L condition and was bet from 8-1 to 5-1. Going a mile, he moved from fourth to the lead after three-quarters, but got run down by the eventual winner while holding off a challenge for the place spot. (8) Mental Model makes that big drop in class from a starter allowance to this N2L claimer for the first time. He broke his maiden for a $75,000 tag when he was claimed by Linda Rice. (1) Bob in Our Midst was last seen racing on the turf at Parx in the Fall and now debuts for Michael Miceli who has improved horses new to his barn. He also makes his first appearance in a N2L race. (4) Count Di Luna is the wild card in the race because he has run only once and that was an impressive maiden score back in 2018 for Bob Baffert at Santa Anita that earned a race high speed figure. Now he returns for trainer Rob Atras.

8th race – (9) The Last Ace (A) was an impressive debut winner for low profile trainer John Morrison. The NY-bred son of Honor Code and a Grade 1 winning mare comes from a family filled with winners. He broke promptly, took the race on the front end, and drew off to be an easy winner by more than six lengths. He’ll now face an allowance field. (4) Microscope was claimed from a maiden win from Todd Pletcher by Gary Sciacca who got him a starter allowance win against open company, a second in a state-bred allowance, and then they tried a stakes race. (1) Tapizearance was claimed from Brad Cox after a starter allowance victory by John Toscano. He has now won his last two races. (3) Titan’s Will tried a NY-bred stake after two wins in a row. He’s in for the $80,000 tag having already won a similar race two back.

Best bets: Ilchester Cheetan (3rd) Captain Frost (4th). Best value:  Dr. Devera’s Way (5th); The Last Ace (8th).
