2nd race [NY, Md Sp Wt, 6F TURF] – (5) Atenea (C) was bet down from 5-1 to 7-2 in her second start while getting blinkers on, set the pace, and finished second in her second start. (3) Fancy Lights (B) was hard to load, raced greenly down the stretch, and finished third in her first race at 5-1. (1) Ticket to Ride showed early speed last time on a sloppy Saratoga track but before that ran third from off the pace in a turf sprint in July. (6) Tiza Smokeshow was third in her race at Parx Racing last month at 7-2.
4th race [Athenia, 1 1/8 mi TURF] – (6) Flowers for Me (A) finished second with a stalking trip behind a front-end winner on a speed favoring track. (8) Awesome Czech won her last two starts including the NY-bred Yaddo at Saratoga coming from off the pace. (5) Moonage Daydream won three NY-bred stakes in a row prior to finishing second in the Yaddo where she had the lead in the stretch briefly. (4) Whiskey Decision won the Eatontown (G3) at Monmouth Park in June in her first start of the year and then was fourth in the Ballston Spa (G2).
6th race [Moc 75000, 6F] – (1) Capanaparo (B) was second in his debut last month at 8-1 and finished well clear of the rest of the field. (5) State of Attack will make his debut for a trainer with a 30% win rate with her first-time starters. (3) Bod Beach hit the board in all three of his starts with the first two at Monmouth in unrestricted maiden special weights and then an auction price restricted race at Saratoga. (4) Escape Hall set the pace in his debut and finished third as the 5-2 favorite at the Spa.
8th race [Clm 50000B, 6 ½ F] - (6) Spun Size (C) was bet down from 7-1 to 9-2, got shuffled back early, closed for third, and was claimed for $50,000. (7) Always Practical has been racing against tougher competition at Saratoga. She was claimed for $50,000 when second at Churchill Downs in May by Linda Rice and also was a winner for $30,000 at Keeneland in the spring. (1) I’m Buzzy is the only horse in the field that is in for the N1Y part of the conditions since she has nine career wins. (4) Amy’s Light was a winner of a $40,000 N2L claimer at Aqueduct in March.
