Case Clay Thoroughbred Management to offer Dam of Kentucky Derby Winner, Puca, and G1 Winner Dalika (GER) at Keeneland November Sale

Case Clay Thoroughbred Management will consign Puca, who is carrying a full sibling to 2023 Kentucky Derby (G1) Presented by Woodford Reserve winner Mage, and Grade 1 winner and millionaire Dalika (GER), in foal to Horse of the Year Flightline for her first offspring, in a two-mare consignment at Keeneland’s November Breeding Stock Sale on Wednesday, Nov. 8.

“It’s an honor to bring Puca and Dalika to the market and to be associated with such quality mares and quality pregnancies,” said Clay. “I am associated with these two particular mares already, so it’s a natural extension of my business in an area in which I have been lucky enough to have experience in selling top mares. I’m looking forward to showing them to potential buyers in November.”

Puca is an 11-year-old, stakes-winning daughter of Big Brown. Out of the stakes-placed Silver Ghost mare Boat’s Ghost, she is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner and millionaire Finnegans Wake.

Mage, who also was second in the TVG.com Haskell (G1) and Curlin Florida Derby (G1) and third in the Preakness (G1), is to make his next start in the $1.25 million Travers (G1) to be run Saturday at Saratoga Race Course.

The Kentucky Derby winner is the second foal out of Puca. She also produced stakes-placed winner Gunning as well as current two-year-old Dornoch, who is entered in the Sapling Stakes at Monmouth Park on Saturday.

Dalika, who is carrying a foal from the first crop of Flightline, set two course records, in the 1 1/8-mile Beverly D. (G1) at Churchill Downs in 2022 and in the 1 mile, 70 yard-One Dreamer Stakes at Kentucky Downs in 2020. She won races from 5 1/2 to 11 furlongs; captured seven stakes, including the 2022 Kentucky Downs Ladies Turf (G3) and Cardinal (G3) at Churchill along with the 2021 Robert G. Dick Memorial (G3) at Delaware Park; and earned nearly $1.5 million while competing in France, Germany and the U.S.

The daughter of Pastorius, a Group 1 winner in his native Germany, is out of Drawn To Run, an Irish-bred winner in Germany who is by Hurricane Run (IRE).

“Keeneland is excited that Case has chosen us to offer these two exceptional broodmares in Book 1 of the November Breeding Stock Sale – and mark the debut of Case Clay Thoroughbred Management,” Keeneland Vice President of Sales Tony Lacy said. “While at Three Chimneys Farm, when it was owned by his family, Case oversaw the sale of a large number of million-dollar-plus broodmares over many years, including the great Take Charge Lady here at Keeneland in 2004. Along with this experience at the top end, he has an extraordinary amount of connections and relationships with domestic and international buyers.”

The November Breeding Stock Sale catalog is scheduled to be posted online Tuesday, Oct. 3.
