Even-Money Favorite Fulleffort Wins Thursday’s Featured Mt. Brilliant Purse at Keeneland

St. Elias Stable and Starlight Racing’s even-money favorite Fulleffort scooted between rivals in midstretch en route to a 5-length victory in the $120,000 Mt. Brilliant Purse, Keeneland’s featured race on Thursday. With Irad Ortiz Jr. in the saddle for trainer Brad Cox, the 2-year-old Liam’s Map colt raced midpack before rallying on the turn and weaving through traffic to stop the clock in 1:43.09 for the 1 1/16 miles on firm turf.

The victory was worth $69,750 to Fulleffort, a Kentucky-bred colt out of stakes winner Callmethesqueeze, by Awesome Again. He increased his earnings to $186,215 with two wins in four starts.

Fulleffort is a half-brother to Grade 1 winner Power Squeeze.

For his performance, Fulleffort paid $4.02, $2.82 and $2.56. Second choice Easy Wind, the runner-up ridden by Tyler Gaffalione, returned $3.52 and $2.90 and finished a neck in front of 45-1 longshot A Million Dreams. With Jaime Torres aboard, A Million Dreams paid $10.30 to show.

Ortiz rode three winners on the nine-race card.
