Woodslane Farm’s homebred Sister Troienne, the favorite in a field of 11 2-year-old fillies, gained command down the stretch and drew clear for a 3½-length victory in Wednesday’s featured $120,000 Newtownanner Stud Purse at Keeneland.
With Mario Gutierrez in the saddle for trainer Brian Lynch, Sister Troienne raced just behind the front runners before making her move at the top of the stretch in the middle of the track. She covered 1 1/16 miles on a good turf course in 1:44.30.
Sister Troienne is a daughter of Munnings out of the Lemon Drop Kid mare Dyna Passer. With today’s win, her second in three starts, she earned $68,820 to increase her earnings to $147,679.
A Keeneland sales graduate, Sister Troienne paid $4.18, $2.84 and $2.74. Dame Laura, ridden by Tyler Gaffalione, returned $8.10 and $6.36 and finished 1¼ lengths in front of Back Ring Buzz, who paid $10.20 to show under Luis Saez.
