Race 8 – The San Felipe is a [50-20-15-10-5] points qualifier on the road to the Kentucky Derby 2025. Bob Baffert trains three of the horses in the field of six. Post time is set for 6:30 pm EST. (2) Journalism makes his 2025 debut following a victory on the Kentucky Derby trail in the Los Alamitos Futurity (G2) where he earned 10 Derby points. In that victory he defeated three Baffert runners when he sat in a stalking position and drew off to win by more than three lengths. (3) Barnes is undefeated in two starts as a heavy favorite with a maiden win at Churchill Downs as a 2-year-old and then this year in the seven-furlong San Vicente at Santa Anita. He is well known for his name and his $3.2 million yearling sale price. (4) Rodriguez is also from the Baffert barn and he ran three times breaking his maiden in his second start and then finishing second in the Robert B. Lewis (G3) behind his stablemate and champion Citizen Bull earning 10 Derby points. (1) Mellencamp is the third Baffert runner in the field. He makes his fifth start and is still a maiden. He was second in maiden races in his debut and then last month and has a fifth-place finish in the Los Al Futurity. Betting strategy:  Exacta 2 with 3.
