The $500,000 Sunland Derby, Sunland Park, Race 9

The Sunland Derby carries with it 42 qualifying points (20-10-6-4-2) to the top five finishers. (3)  Bricklin appeared on the Derby trail in October in the Street Sense (G3) at Churchill Downs and finished sixth. He bounced back to win an allowance going a mile at Oaklawn Park with a front-end effort. He did rally to break his maiden. A fast pace is expected and Bricklin could use his tactical speed to sit a stalking trip. (1) Express Kid was the winner of the Springboard Mile on the Derby trail in December by more than six lengths and has been training at Sunland since then. (7) Daneyko is one of the local horses and the winner of the Riley Allison Derby, which is the prep race for this spot, with a deep closing rally. (8) Buntus Foclora is still a maiden for Donegal Racing and they opt to ship from New York. Betting strategy: Exacta key box: 3 with 1, 7, 8. Trifecta box: 1, 3, 7, 8.
