Race 6 at Keeneland | Saturday, October 25| Post Time 3:40 PM Eastern
Bowman Mill Stakes | Purse $250,000 | Six Furlongs | Two Years Old
Top contender is Spun D M C (5)
Analysis and win contenders:
These seven entries include – Heartily (1), Just Deeds (2), Strategic Reserves (4), Super Kicks (7), and possibly Gallivant (6) - five horses that have all shown only one way to go “early” to battle for the lead. In this case, two, three, four, or all five will go as fast and far as they can.
Spun D M C (5) won his first and only start. He led in the first few yards, but then took third position a length after a quarter. He then made the front at the half and won easily. His 89 Equibase Speed Figure was strong. Super Kicks and Gallivant have better figures (92), but those are two of the “early” pace entries.
After this, Spun D M C should only run faster in his second start, and I have him in a similar off early position to his last race before to get the lead in the stretch. He gets a significant jockey change to Irad Ortiz, Jr., the leader at the fall meeting, who has never run under trainer Randy Morse.
I would consider Outfielder (3) in the exacta, as he has two wins in two dirt sprints; he started in third in his recent race, before rallying to get the front. His last speed figure was 84, so even if running faster, and he improves, and Spun D M C also improves, Outfielder should only finish in second place.
Win Bet: Spun D M C (5) is a strong contender to win at 3 to 2 or better.
Exacta: Spun D M C (5) over Outfielder (3)
