Irad Ortiz Jr. (winning rider of Alpine Princess)

“We had the one post, so I was looking forward to be forward. We had some speed in the race, but she helped me and I was able to get good position going into the first turn. After that I just took my time. I was inside from the beginning, so I didn’t want to do anything different. I just stayed there and saved some ground, got lucky and got through before the quarter pole, and she got the job done.”

Brad Cox (winning trainer)

“I thought the draw (for the inside post) was fine. Going into the first turn, she was laying about where I thought (she would be) early. I really liked the way she was traveling up the backside, and into the turn (jockey) Irad (Ortiz Jr.) looked like he had plenty of horse. Going up the inside was probably the winning move. I’m very proud of the filly. I want to thank (co-owner) Dann Glick and the Full of Run (Racing II) team — great guys to train for — and (co-owner) Sol Kumin and his team at Madaket (Stables). She’s a pretty good filly. Obviously broke her maiden early, as a 2-year-old at Saratoga. Took her a little while to get her first graded stakes but now she has two. Very proud of her.”

Dann Glick (of Full of Run Racing II, co-owner of Alpine Princess)

“(The one post wasn’t an issue), thanks to (jockey) Irad (Ortiz Jr.). We won a race with him on Wednesday (with Sweet Treasure), and he did the same thing. Just an amazing race. (Trainer) Brad (Cox) and Irad have been terrific. I have a lady who helps me with our bloodstock named Linda Sims, who helped make this possible. She deserves a lot of credit. (Alpine Princess) is the gift that keeps on giving. She just keeps trying and just gets there. She’s a treat. I mean, look how many times she’s started (19), and she runs her heart out every time.”

Flavien Prat (rider of runner-up Eunomia)

“She did everything right. The winner got through (on the rail). I was doing everything I could, but (Irad) had just enough horse to go through. I knew she (Alpine Princess) was there so I made it as tight as I could. She (Eunomia) ran a good race.”

Tyler Gaffalione (rider of third-place finisher Peignoir)

“Everything went to plan. Maybe just a lack of speed (on the front end) might have hurt us in the long run, but very happy with the effort. She shows up and tries hard every time.”
