Luis Saez (winning rider of favored Sister Troienne)
“This is a pretty nice filly. She broke pretty well. I don’t want to take anything away from her. She was controlling the pace and was pretty comfortable. I was very confident because I knew I had a lot of horse. Of course, (trainer) Brian (Lynch) does an amazing job with all his horses.”
Brian Lynch (winning trainer)
“Her last race (when second in the Winter Memories-G3 at Belmont Park Oct. 1) was a comeback race, and unfortunately she got in a bit of a pocket. No fault to (jockey) Junior (Alvarado); it was just the way it set up in New York. (Jockey) Luis (Saez) was lucky to inherit her from (jockey) Irad (Ortiz Jr.), who unfortunately had an injury yesterday. In the back of my mind, Luis really fit this filly because she can easily make the lead like she did today. When the fractions started to come up, I started feeling better about it.”
Lauren and Rene Woolcott (winning breeders and owners)
Lauren Woolcott: “It’s phenomenally meaningful (that Sister Troienne is a homebred). The dam’s dam is Dynaire, who produced (homebred Grade 1 winner) Sadler’s Joy, (homebred multiple graded stakes winner) Wolfie’s Dynaghost and (homebred stakes placed) Dyna Passer. It’s just unbelievable how lucky we are.”
On being in the Stakes Winner’s Circle at Keeneland:
Lauren Woolcott: “You can’t put it into words. It’s the most special spot, and to have done what she did. (Jockey) Luis (Saez) was brilliant.”
Rene Woolcott: “We’ve been waiting for this action from her, and she gave it. We also bred (Belmont-G1 winner) Tonalist, but we didn’t own him.”
Tyler Gaffalione (rider of runner-up Define-IRE)
“My filly tried; she gave me a big effort. She showed a ton of heart, but heads up to the winner — she ran a big race. Very proud of her (Define).”
Francisco Arrieta (rider of third-place finisher Dakotah Blue)
“I was expecting more speed in the race. I thought I was going to be sitting fifth or sixth. She jumped really good, but (the leaders) slowed down. She was trying the whole way, but the pace was a little too slow. The horses in front kept going. She tried. I liked the way she did it. She galloped out massive too. Very good.”
