William Werner (winning breeder and owner of Storm’s Wake)
“I didn’t have any idea (if she would get up in time). She was coming. (Jockey) Joel (Rosario) gave her a great ride and she did all she could and she did enough. It’s just so special (that I also bred her). I don’t know what to say. This is the first filly that I bred that has won like this, so it’s unbelievable. I only breed five or six (a year) and buy a few too. This is very exciting. Thank you to (trainer) Brian (Lynch) and everybody.”
Brian Lynch (winning trainer)
On whether the turf course at Keeneland plays to Storm’s Wake’s style
“It probably plays a lot into it. I just felt she was overlooked in the betting. I felt she ran really good her last out, only beaten three-quarters of a length to Sister Troienne (herself second by a head to Lion Lake-IRE in the Herecomesthebride-G3 at Gulfstream Park Feb. 28). I thought she would appreciate the long stretch here and she got her chance. There was a bit of pace in front of her and it really set up well for a filly who could close from out of it. I think she appreciated every step of the ground coming down the lane. We’ve always had a good feeling about this filly, and she’s getting older and stronger and just maturing into racing. We’re thrilled to have her in the barn.”
Joel Rosario (winning rider)
“Riding for (trainer) Brian Lynch gave me a lot of confidence. He did a tremendous job with this filly, like he always does. He’s an unbelievable trainer and I can’t thank him enough for the opportunity to let me get back on the filly. Last time she ran (when third in the Herecomesthebride-G3 at Gulfstream Park Feb. 28), she ran really well. It looked like she wanted ground like today here. She did really very nice and pulled off like she always does.”
Tyler Gaffalione (rider of runner-up Imaginationthelady)
“Everything went to plan. My filly broke alertly and put herself in a great spot. She was traveling really well throughout. I just followed around and coming into the stretch, she gave me a good run. We weren’t able to hold off the winner today, but very proud of our effort.
