Lee Searing (of C R K Stable, winning owner of Remember Mamba)

On watching Remember Mamba gather himself at the top of the stretch

“To be honest, I saw his first two races but from Los Angeles so I didn’t have any idea. (I thought), ‘OK, we got a front-running horse, or what have we got?’ And then he didn’t break that good and at the top of the stretch he wasn’t there for a minute, then all of a sudden here he comes. I was looking at the first finish line, not the second finish line, so I thought we ran a really nice third.”

On paying homage to the late Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers with the names of his horses

“Out of high school I followed Kobe (Bryant) and when he signed with the Lakers, we started going to every Lakers game. We followed that for 10 years or so, saw his big games, saw his last game. I’ve never really met him, but I’ve named three or four horses with that connotation in it. This one looks like a really nice horse, and what a perfect name for the horse.”

Cherie DeVaux (winning trainer)

“We had this race targeted. He’s a colt that acts like the more distance, the better, so really bigger races for him are in the summer. Most definitely (we’ll be looking for longer ground).”

Jose Ortiz (winning rider)

“The key (to being three for three and now a stakes winner) is the horse keeps getting better and better. I had a good trip. I was able to follow (jockey) Flavien (Prat aboard Vasy-IRE) every step of the way around there. He did everything perfect. When I hit him left-handed he ducked out a little bit, but that was about it. He’s only had three races, so we’re very happy with him. He keeps getting better and better and he faced better company. We think the farther he goes, the better he’s going to get, so hopefully he will keep improving.”

Whit Beckman (trainer of runner-up Honey Dutch)

“He ran a great race. He settled beautifully, which is something he hasn’t done in the past. It’s a great effort. Obviously caught by a good horse, but that’s horse racing.”

Tyler Gaffalione (rider of Honey Dutch)

“Everything went to plan. We showed up big. It was unfortunate that we were unable to get the win, but very proud of his effort.”

Flavien Prat (rider of third-place finisher Vasy-IRE)

“I had a good trip. For a moment I thought he had a good chance (to win). He ran a good race.”
