1st race [NY, Md Sp Wt, 1 mi] – (6) Modest Maclean (A) missed by a neck in his debut for Linda Rice as the odds-on favorite. Her horses usually make a big improvement in their second starts. (7) Bubster moved from turf to dirt in his second start, set the pace, and was second by a half-length. (8) Term Premium gets blinkers on for his third start for Chad Brown with a second and a fourth-place finish. (3) Just Tipsy returned from a six-month layoff, pressed the pace, and was fourth.
3rd race [Md Sp Wt, 6 ½ F] – (1) Powerline (A) broke last in his first career start for Steve Asmussen, was rank from kickback, and finished second at 8-5. (3) Got Tough was third in his debut in July at 11-1 and blinkers go on. (8) Art Museum makes his first start as a $1.5 million yearling purchase for Chad Brown. (6) American History will make his debut for Todd Pletcher and WinStar Farm and was an $825,000 yearling.
6th race [Md Sp Wt, 6 ½ F] – (4) Key Colony Beach was 4-1 for her debut on a sloppy and sealed track at Saratoga last month and raced second the whole way. Blinkers go on. (8) Mysticious was second most of the way in her first race at 10-1. (9) Above All Odds will make her first career start for Pletcher and Repole Stable with a filly they bought for $425,000. (5) Forever Carina is a home-bred beginning her career as a horse that Chad Brown mentioned as one to watch during the Saratoga meeting.
10th race [Ballston Spa (G2), 1 1/16 mi TURF] – (3) Deep Satin (B) broke through the gate, raced second most of the way, and faded to sixth. (6) Segesta is a two-time Grade 1 winner and was second in the Diana (G1) last month using her early speed for Chad Brown. (7) Grayosh won the Matchmaker (G3) at Monmouth Park on Haskell Day and is also from Brown. (2) Sunlit Uplands won a Group 3 race in Germany last month and has three other wins in Great Britain. The Euros have had more than their share of stakes victories this summer at the Spa.
Best bets: Modest Maclean (1st); Powerline (3rd). Best Value: Key Colony Beach (6th); Deep Satin (10th).
